WASHINGTON, July 5 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush said on Wednesday that he supports Georgia to become a member of the NATO, although Georgia still has work to do.
"I believe that NATO would benefit with Georgia being a member of NATO, and I think Georgia would benefit. And there is a way forward through the Membership Action Plan," Bush said at a press conference with visiting Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili in the White House after their talks.
"And we will work with our partners in NATO to see if we can make the path a little smoother for Georgia. Georgia has got work to do, and the president understands that," Bush said.
Saakashvili, a U.S.-educated lawyer, has been a strong U.S. ally in Central Asia since he took office in 2003. Enditem
