MEXICO City, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Two
front-runners in Sunday's Mexican presidential election have both claimed
victory in the vote despite the announcement by the electoral authorities that
the race was too close to call.
Leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, from the Revolutionary Democratic Party (PRD), told
supporters that he had an "irreversible" lead.
"According to our data, we have won the vote by at
least 500,000 votes. This is irreversible," he said.
Meanwhile, his major rival, Felipe Calderon, from the
ruling National Action Party, also said he had no doubt he had won the election.
Luis Ugalde, president of the Federal Electoral
Institute, announced, three hours after the voting concluded, that the
presidential election was too close to call and results will only not be
announced at least until Wednesday.
"The margin of difference is too narrow, it is not
possible to announce which candidate won," he said. Enditem
