BANJUL, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Member states of the African Union (AU) has
vowed to accord greater priority to transport matters in their development
policies.
The AU Commission will be in collaboration with international organizations
including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the African
Development Bank, the Union of African Railways and the Regional Economic
Communities, to take all necessary measures to support the implementation of the
Action Plan for the improvement of railway transport in Africa, said a report
released during an AU ministerial meeting, which preceded the 53-member bloc's
biannual summit opening here Saturday,
African ministers responsible for railway transport were commended by the
report for their evaluation of the railway transport sub-sector in Africa and
the adoption of the comprehensive Plan of Action for the effective restoration
and strengthening of railway transport in Africa.
The report requests member states to honor their
international obligations on civil aviation safety especially those related to
standards and recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation
