BAGHDAD, July 1 (Xinhua)
-- The death toll of the car bombing near a market in Baghdad's Shiite district
of Sadr City on Saturday rose to 60, and up to 76 others were wounded, said an
Interior Ministry source.
"The toll of the Sadr City market has mounted to 60
killed and 76 wounded," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Earlier the ministry put the toll to 33 killed and 42
injured.
The blast, which took place shortly after 10:00 a.m. (0600
GMT),apparently caused by a parking explosive-packed vehicle near the Souq
al-Auola market in the heavily populated Sadr City, according to the source.
The attack targeted a passing police patrol, which
escaped unhurt, he said, adding that all the victims were civilians.
Violence has mounted despite the formation of a new unity government in the war-torn country after three years of the U.S.-led invasion. Enditem
