PYONGYANG, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's
Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday accused the United States of carrying
out more than 220 aerial spying missions against it during June, using various
reconnaissance planes, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
The country accused the United
States of using U-2 planes to take daily shuttle flights over the DPRK's
strategic targets, the KCNA quoted a military source as saying.
On June 28, it is alleged that an American RC-135
aircraft based in Okinawa, Japan, "illegally infiltrated" airspace above the
economic waters of the DPRK east of Musudan and Hamhung to "intensively spy" on
North Korea's "strategic targets for hours," said the KCNA.
The DPRK said U.S. planes had repeatedly flown spy
missions over airspace in the east of Hwadae County and other places along the
eastern coast of the country since early June.
More than 170 aerial spying missions by the United
States took place in April, the DPRK said.
The United States and Japan recently called on the
DPRK to halt preparations for a possible test-launch of a long-range missile.
