Spanish government to start peace talks with ETA

    MADRID, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero announced here Thursday that his government would launch peace talks with Basque separatist group ETA.

    "I want to announce to you that the government is going to start negotiations with ETA," Zapatero told reporters.

    On March 22, ETA, which had been fighting for independence for the Basque Country, announced a permanent ceasefire. Enditem
