TUNIS, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Libya and Britain signed a
memorandum of peace and security in Libyan capital Tripoli on Monday, vowing to
build peaceful and secure relations, according to reports from Tripoli.
The memorandum contains a joint pledge to maintain
regional security and fight the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction,
such as nuclear weapons and biochemical weapons, saying Libya and Britain will
build a relationship of peace and security on the basis of international law and
the UN Charter.
The two countries agreed to honor related
international treaties and make joint efforts to eliminate any forms of racial
discrimination and terrorist activities.
After the signing ceremony, British Foreign Office
Minister of State Kim Howells said the memorandum will bring Britain and Libya
into a new stage, and he hoped it would be conducive to enhancing bilateral
cooperation in such fields as security, anti-terror and trade. Enditem
