Special report: New violence between
Israel, Palestine
RAMALLAH, June 25 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian lawmaker from the ruling
Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Sunday praised the Palestinian armed
attack on an Israeli army post in southern Gaza and called it "fantastic".
"Members of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) are part of the
people's hope and dreams, and we see that the fantastic operation came at a
suitable time, and it is of a pride for Arab and Islamic nations," Yehia Abadssa
told the local radio Voice of Palestine.
He also called for "boosting and uniting resistance" against Israel, while
demanding the Hamas-led government and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to
support the resistance as a legitimate right.
As to the Israeli threats to target Hamas leaders and members in the wake
of the increasing Palestinian attacks, Abadssa said that "the Israeli occupation
has no thing but the threats that don't terrify us because we are a part of the
people and ready to pay the price of freedom."
Hamas members dominate the PLC after the movement defeated rival Fatah
movement led by Abbas and won the parliamentary elections on Jan. 25.
The involvement of Hamas' armed wing in Sunday morning attack on an Israeli
army post near Kerem Shalom crossing, where two Israeli soldiers killed and one
missing, was regarded as the end of a 16-month-fragile ceasefire between Hamas
and Israel. Enditem
