Special report: Internal situation in Palestine

GAZA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Saleh Zidan, politburo member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, has welcomed on Sunday President Mahmoud Abbas' decision to stay in Gaza to oversee the intern-Palestinian dialogue.

"Abbas' visit was transferred the dialogue into a new positive phase of ongoing contacts and interactions to come up with an agreeing formula," Zidan told the Voice of Palestine radio.

The talks are expected to be ended within 24 hours with the declaration of a joint agreement among Palestinian factions on a plan that includes the formation of a new coalition government and the establishment of a Palestinian statehood in Gaza and the West Bank.

Otherwise, the factions have to face a referendum on the plan, known as Prisoners' Document of National Accordance, by July 26.

Zidan considered the adoption of the document as insufficient and called for a mechanism to implement the document and its content by looking for ways of forming a national unity government.

According to Zidan, the reasons for forming a coalition government were to guarantee getting the people out of the current crisis that occurred after the Hamas-led government took office in late March.

As the governing party's charter calls for the destruction of Israel, major Western donors, including the European Union, have suspended aiding the Palestinian National Authority unless Hamas renounces violence, recognizes Israel and peace deal. Enditem
