KABUL, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Two coalition troops have died from
injures caused in a military operation in southern Afghan province of Kandahar,
coalition forces said in a press release on Sunday.
The two coalition soldiers died Saturday at a coalition
hospital due to the injuries suffered in Saturday's operation against some
extremists in Panjwayi district of Kandahar, it said.
Another coalition soldier was wounded in the operation,
which was part of the ongoing Operation Mountain Thrust.
Afghan and coalition forces pressed the attack with joint
fires and a ground assault, killing an estimated 45 extremists in the firefight.
About 11,000 coalition and Afghan forces launched the
major phase of Mountain Thrust on June 15 in the southern provinces of Zabul,
Uruzgan, Kandahar and Helmand to wipe out Taliban militants there.
Nearly 200 Taliban insurgents have been killed in the
operation since June 15, according to Afghan Defense Ministry's count.
About 40 foreign troops have lost their lives in
Afghanistan this year, which witnesses a rise of violence, and most of them are
Americans. Enditem
