Ghana has done Africa proud: soccer star

    LUSAKA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian soccer star Abedi Pele has said the Black Stars have done Africa proud by becoming the only African team to qualify for the second round of the on-going World Cup soccer tournament.

    Pele told Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) in Munich, German, that Ghana's qualification strengthens Africa's call to have more teams from the continent at future World Cup soccer tournament.

    Commenting about his team's chances in Tuesday's second round game against defending champions, Brazil, Pele said ghana is determined to perform well.

    Pele is in Germany with the Ghanaian team where he is part of the team's technical committee.

    The Ghanaian team scored on a penalty kick in the second minute of first-half injury time Thursday for a 2-1 World Cup victory over the United States, advancing the Africans to the second round. Enditem
