MEXICO CITY, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Mexico and the United States on Thursday started a program to tighten control on human trafficking in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, said Mexico's foreign ministry.

The move in Chihuahua, which borders the southern U.S. states of New Mexico and Texas, has been an extension of the Oasis Program which began in August 2005 in Baja California, and Sonora -- two Mexican states bordering the U.S. states of California and Arizona.

Mexico and the U.S. decided to launch the Chihuahua program at a meeting in El Paso, Texas, last week.

The two sides agreed to boost intelligence exchanges and strengthen cooperation in personnel training in a bid to curb cross-border human trafficking. Enditem
