Singapore's PM becomes patron of CDAC

    SINGAPORE, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will replace Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong as the patron of the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC) from June 23, Channel News Asia report said Thursday.

    Apart from this announcement, CDAC's 14th annual general meeting also decided to allocate about 13 million Singapore dollars (about 8 million U.S. dollars) for its education, skills training and student services centers.

    Targeting the less capable and lower income group and the academically weak students, the CDAC will launch a Workfare Program, a Silver Talent Program and a Youth Development Program.

    It is also expected that some 5,000 needy students will benefit from its CDAC Opportunity Fund, according to the report. A
