ISLAMABAD, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in northwestern Pakistan are working to form a Jirga for maintaining peace in the Waziristan tribal region.

The services and support of tribal elders will be used in formation of the Jirga, Governor of North West Frontier Province Ali Muhammad Jan Orakzai told reporters on Thursday in Peshawar, the provincial capital.

The meeting of Jirga will be called soon, in which all aspects of the Waziristan problem will be taken care of including possibility of talks with foreigners, Orakzai was quoted by local reports as saying.

In recent weeks, militants' attacks targeted security forces were on the rise in North and South Waziristan tribal region.
