Special Report: Tension accelerates in Iraq
BEIJING, June 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Two U.S. soldiers
were kidnapped by insurgents on Friday night in Iraq and the U.S. troops are
searching thoroughly day and night, the American command in Baghdad said
Sunday.
A local farmer claiming to have witnessed an attack
on a U.S. military checkpoint said the insurgents killed the driver of a
military vehicle before taking another two U.S. soldiers captive.
The checkpoint was not far from Youssifiyah, 12 miles
south of Baghdad. The region is in the so-called triangle of death, where
insurgents frequently ambushes U.S. and Iraqi troops.
“Coalition and Iraqi forces will continue to search
everywhere possible, uncovering every stone, until our soldiers are found," U.S.
military spokesman Major-General William Caldwell said. Enditem
