Special report: Earthquake in Indonesia

SURAKARTA, Central Java, Indonesia, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese medical team treated 3,015 people and successfully executed over 300 operations in Indonesia's quake-hit zone of Bantul, Yogyakarta, said team leader Zhao Heping upon its departure for China here on Friday.

The 43-member team during its 18-day stay also helped rescue some survivors and finally submitted a disaster evaluation report to the Indonesian government, he said.

The team once established the only mobile hospital in Bentul that could deliver major operation and altogether undertook one-fourth of the medical tasks in the region.

On Thursday, Indonesia's Natioanl Committee for Disaster Alleviation issued certificates for all the team members in order to express the government's gratitude.

The 5.9 Ritcher scale earthquake on May 27 killed over 5,000 people and made more than 1.5 million others homeless in Yogyakarta and Central Java.

The Chinese medical team, established in 2001, has been assigned on rescue duties for three times in China and six times abroad. Enditem
