MADRID, June 14 (Xinhua) -- European champions Barcelona reached an agreement to buy Iceland captain Eidur Gudjohnsen from English Premiership champions Chelsea, the Spanish club said on Wednesday.
"FC Barcelona and Chelsea reached an agreement on Tuesday night for the transfer of the Iceland striker, subject to a medical on Wednesday at 1300 (1100 GMT)," the club said in a statement at its website.
Gudjohnsen, who signed a four-year contract with Barcelona, arrived at Stamford Bridge from Premiership rivals Bolton for four million pounds (7.35 million dollars) six years ago.
He made 263 appearances for the London club, starting 177, and scored 78 goals. However, in the last two seasons, his first-teamspot was blocked by Argentina striker Hernan Crespo and Ivory Coast forward Didier Drogba.
After the signing of Ukraine's Andrei Shevchenko from AC Milan, Gudjohnsen's first team opportunities would continue to diminish. Enditem
