Magnitude 6.2 quake hits western Japan, injuring 8

   TOKYO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale shook large parts of western Japan early Monday, injuring at least eight people, the Japan Meteorological Agency and Kyodo News said.

    The epicenter of the quake was about 146 kilometers below ground in central Oita prefecture on Kyushu island, about 800 km southwest of Tokyo, the agency said.

Strong earthquake rocks southern Japan

    TOKYO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake registering a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale struck southern Japan early Monday, but there was no danger of a tsunami, Japan Meteorological Agency said.

Mild earthquake jolts northern Japan

    TOKYO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- A mild earthquake registering a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 jolted northern part of Japan Monday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
