BAGHDAD, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. soldier was killed and another wounded in a roadside bomb blast while patrolling near the Iraqi oil-rich city of Kirkuk, some 250 km north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Saturday.

"One 101st Sustainment Brigade Soldier was killed and one was wounded by an improvised explosive device while conducting a combat logistics patrol at about 12:55 a.m. (0855 GMT) June 9, west of Kirkuk," the military said in a statement.

The wounded soldier was evacuated to a military medical treatment facility, the statement said.

The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending next of kin notification, it added.

The latest death has brought to about 2,480 the number of U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.  Enditem
