FRANKFURT, Germany, June 8 (Xinhua) -- David Beckham has set his sights on
becoming England's record appearance holder once he matches the tally of his
boyhood hero Bryan Robson.
If Beckam appeared on the field at the Frankfurt stadium here on Saturday
when England play against Paraguay in the World Cup group stage, the England
captain will equal Robson's 90 caps in international level for their national
team.
"It's a great feeling to move level on 90 caps with Bryan Robson. He was
one of my heroes and idols as a young kid. I alwayswanted to emulate everything
he had done in his career," said Beckham.
Robson had suggested Beckham should be replaced as captain by either John
Terry or Steven Gerrard but that has not reduced the satisfaction the Real
Madrid star has derived from emulating his idol.
"Saturday is another box on the list to tick off of things he has done and
I have also achieved. It will be a very proud moment for me," added the England
captain.
Beckham also wants to go on and surpass the all-time England record of 125
caps held by legendary 'keeper Peter Shilton.
"I'd actually love to carry on playing for England and reach Peter
Shilton's record. We will see. I'll take each game and each cap as it comes,"
said Bechham.
The former Manchester United superstar made his debut against Moldova a
decade ago and admitted that he has been very lucky that each manager he had
played under wanted him in the team and wanted him to play.
"It's a dream to play for your country and lead them out as well and I've achieved
all of that," said Beckham. Enditem
