MUNICH, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Sepp Blatter has confirmed to the FIFA Congress that he intends to seek re-election as president in 2007.

The 70-year-old Swiss first took over in 1998, before winning re-election in 2002 despite allegations of financial irregularities and vote-buying.

And he intends to run for a third term, with the backing of Franz Beckenbauer.

Beckenbauer, a World Cup winner as a player and coach, has been touted as a future president but said recently that Blatter shouldbe re-elected next year.

The elections will be held in Zurich next May. Enditem
