BERLIN, June 8 (Xinhua) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday that the death of al-Zarqawi one of the most wanted al-Qaida terrorists, was "good news."

Al-Zarqawi can no longer be the "instigator of inhuman attacks," said Merkel at a swearing-in ceremony of the German army in the southeastern city of Neustadt.

He was "one of the most dangerous man" of the terrorist group al-Qaida, said the chancellor.

Al-Zarqawi has been confirmed killed by a U.S. air strike in northeast of Baghdad on Wednesday night.

With a 25 million U.S. dollar bounty on his head, Zarqawi is believed to be the top leader of the al-Qaida terror group in Iraq. He is accused of being behind some of the most gruesome kidnappings and killings in Iraq. Enditem
