LONDON, June 7 (Xinhua) -- England's striker Wayne Rooney will "play some part" in the World Cup finals in Germany following positive results from a scan on his injured right foot, England's Football Association said on Wednesday evening.

    "England have been boosted by the news that Wayne Rooney will be fit to play some part in Germany 2006," FA said after Rooney flew back to Germany earlier.

    "The 20-year-old striker will be included in Sven-Goran Eriksson's 23-man squad for the tournament, which begins on 9 June," it added.

    Rooney left the hospital of Manchester in early evening with asmile after hearing from doctors the results of the scan on his injured foot.

    The football star returned from England's training camp in Baden-baden, Germany, to Manchester just before midday for another scan on his fractured right foot by a private jet, with England's team doctor Leif Sward.

    On Tuesday morning, Rooney took part in training in Buhlertal, Germany, and volunteered for extra shooting, penalty-taking and heading practice in the afternoon.

    "I am confident and Wayne is 300 percent even more confident," said Sven-Goran Eriksson, England's head coach, after Tuesday's training.

    Rooney is ready to re-join the squad to continue his rehabilitation. England will have its opening game against Paraguay on Friday. Enditem
