BEIJING, June 7 -- SK Telecom Co, South Korea's largest mobile-phone operator, plans to buy a 10 percent stake in China Unicom Ltd for about US$1.1 billion, the Financial Times reported.
SK Telecom is in the process of hiring advisers for the transaction. Kim Shin Bae, chief executive officer of SK Telecom, on May 9 said the Seoul-based company hasn't considered buying a stake in China Unicom. China Unicom is the smaller of the country's two mobile- phone companies.
