Prague, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Some 2,000 people attended a demonstration at Prague's Wenceslas Square on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Social Democrat (CSSD) Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek as they were concerned about Paroubek's post-election speech in which he questioned the result of the general elections.
Both the young and elderly were among the protesters
who waved Czech flags and anti-CSSD banners.
The Social Democrats obtained three percentage points
less than the Civic Democratic Party (ODS). Paroubek blamed "dishonest" campaign
of the ODS and biased journalists for the failure.
However, later he said that he would recommend to the
Social Democrats that they go into the opposition.
"Paroubek's remaining in his post is a shame on all
of us and the Social Democrats, too," organizer Jan Sinagl said.
Green Senator Jaromir Stetina said that Paroubek
should resign not only as the prime minister, but also as the leader of the
CSSD."He must quit politics," Stetina said.
Organizers highlighted the chief corruption scandals
with the involvement of CSSD members. Whistling and chanting "shame," they
replayed Paroubek's speech from last Saturday. Enditem
