KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia has won the bid to host the 18th World Congress of Accountants (WCOA), the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) said Tuesday.

Kuala Lumpur will be the host city for the WCOA in the year 2010, beating other candidate cities in India, the Netherlands, Mexico, and Spain, MIA said in a statement released here.

The congress will provide a platform for countries to establish, upgrade and sustain their own financial infrastructure and regulatory framework, said head of the WCOA Bid Committee of the institute, C.Y. Lee.

"Watching over 6,000 business leaders come together to share their knowledge, to promote and to sustain the world's best accounting and business practices in one of the fastest-growing regional economies will be truly exhilarating and rewarding," said Lee.

The 17th WCOA will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, this November. Enditem
