    Special report: Earthquake in Indonesia

HONG KONG, June 6 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong government announced Tuesday that it has prepared relief supplies valuing 980,000 HK dollars (about 126,614 U.S. dollars) to help earthquake disaster victims in Indonesia.

Responding to a request from Indonesia, the government of the special administrative region has procured and arranged airfreight of 20 tons of relief supplies including tents and blankets for needy victims. This will be the first consignment of supplies which is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on June 7.

Free freight arrangements were offered by the Cathay Pacific Airways and Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited.

In line with the established arrangements for grants made under the Disaster Relief Fund, the recipient country will provide the Hong Kong Government with an evaluation report on the disbursement of the grant in six months.

Besides, several relief agencies have indicated that they will shortly submit grant applications for emergency relief to earthquake victims in Indonesia.

The Disaster Relief Fund was established in December 1993, for emergency disaster relief in places outside Hong Kong. Enditem
