JAKARTA, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday denounced Timor Leste Prime Minister Mari
Alkatiri for accusing pro-Indonesia militiamen of involving in the bloody riots
in the tiny country in the last few weeks.
Susilo said Alkatiri's remarks could spark a new problem
in the bilateral ties between Indonesia and its former province, which
seceded in 1999 under a U.N.-sponsored referendum and gained independence three
years later.
"I hope the Timor Leste prime minister will not
fabricate the issue... because it will ruin the image of Indonesia as a state
and a nation, which is also a friend and a neighbor to Timor Leste," Susilo told
reporters at the State Palace.
Accusation that Indonesia involves in the unrest in
Timor Leste is against Indonesia's intention to build a constructive cooperation
for the future, Susilo said.
Indonesia, Susilo said, respects and honors the
sovereignty of Timor Leste and will never intervene in the neighbor's internal
affairs.
"I already said Indonesia is ready to send
humanitarian aid if asked by Timor Leste," said Susilo. Enditem
