WARSAW, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The Polish Foreign Ministry says it is shocked by the assault in Baghdad on representatives of the Russian diplomatic corps, the ministry wrote in a statement sent to polish news agency PAP on Monday.

"We assess the Saturday terrorist attack against the employees of the Russian Embassy as an attack against the emerging Iraqi democracy and reconstruction of Iraq's relations with other states," the statement read.

"Condemning the assault on Russian diplomats, we would like to confirm Poland's further support for Iraqi constitutional authorities in their efforts to restore safety and normalization in that country," the statement added.

A member of staff from the Russian embassy in Baghdad was killed on Saturday and four others were kidnapped when gunmen blocked their vehicle in the Iraqi capital's western Mansour district. Enditem
