Urgent: Nearly 50 people kidnapped in central Baghdad

    BAGHDAD, June 5 (Xinhua) -- About 50 people were kidnapped by gunmen in police uniform in central Baghdad on Monday, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

    "Unknown gunmen wearing police commando uniforms and using SUVs and Pick-up trucks similar to that used by police abducted between 40 to 50 workers in Salhiyah Street, home to several transport companies," the source said on condition of anonymity.

    Violence has persisted in the war-torn country despite the formation of a new government in late May. Enditem
