JAKARTA, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will seek more effective efforts to fully restore military ties with the United States when he meets U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who is due to arrive Tuesday, a spokesman said Monday.

    Washington broke off military ties with Jakarta over accusations of human rights abuses by Indonesian officers in Timor Leste in 1999.

    But last November, the U.S. government lifted military embargo and allowed selected areas of military assistance for Indonesia.

    "The president hopes that the normalization process will run effectively," presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal told reporters at the State Palace.

    Dino said the president also hopes that the U.S. government would allow the purchase of arms components, primarily those of jet fighters, and resume training program for Indonesian officers as part of the restoration of military ties.

    Rumsfeld will become the second top U.S. official to visit Jakarta this year after Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's two-day visit in March. Enditem
