50 tons relief goods collected for Timor-Leste in Macao

    MACAO, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Macao has collected over 50 tons of relief goods for the violence-stricken Timor-Leste since the city launched the relief campaign in the past week, local media reported Monday.

    The Macao Post Daily quoted sources from the East Timor Humanitarian Relief Commission as saying that the relief items, including food stuff, summer cloth, kitchen utensils and remedies will soon be sent to Timor-Leste by charter flights.

    International aid agencies estimated that over 100,000 people in the riot-torn Timor-Leste, around 10 percent of its population, may have been made homeless.

    The nation and Macao were both former Portuguese colonies. Enditem
