TIKRIT, Iraq, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Five people were wounded in a bomb explosion in the northern Iraqi town of Dujail on Saturday, a local police source said.

A bomb planted in a parking minibus near the main market of Dujail went off at about 11:30 a.m. (0730 GMT), wounding five civilians, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. The wounded were taken to hospital, the source added.

Dujail, some 60 km north of Baghdad, was the scene of a failed assassination attempt against former president Saddam Hussein in 1982.

Meanwhile, seven policemen were killed and ten others wounded when gunmen opened fire at a checkpoint near the entrance of Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, the police said. Enditem
