Uganda leads in AIDS treatment in E. Africa

    KAMPALA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The percentage of patients receiving AIDS treatment in Uganda is higher than the other two east African countries combined, said a newly-released UN report on the global AIDS epidemic, quoted by New Vision daily on Saturday.

    Fifty-six percent of HIV positive Ugandans are receiving anti-retroviral therapy, according to the report, compared to 19.7 percent in Kenya and 7 percent in Tanzania.

    The report estimated that one million Ugandans are infected, compared to 1.3 million Kenyans and 1.4 million Tanzanians. Enditem
