PARIS, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Anastasia Myskina made short work of Serbian teenager Ana Ivanovic 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the fourth round of the French Open here on Saturday.
Myskina, the 2004 winner at Roland Garros, will meet defending champion Justine Henin-Hardenne, a 6-4, 6-0 victor over Italy's Tathiana Garbin, for a place in the quarterfinals.
The 24-year-old Russian lost to Henin-Hardenne in six of their eight previous encounters.
Playing a much steadier baseline game than her younger opponent, Myskina used her wealth of clay court experience to race through the first set in 26 minutes.
Ivanovic's game improved temporarily in the second set, and she showed signs of the brilliance that had seen her sensationally dispatch Amelie Mauresmo in the third round here last year.
However Myskina, the first ever female Russian Grand Slam winner, proved far too consistent, winning the point every time she rushed to the net, and slapping 17 winners during the 64 minute duel.
She broke Ivanovic's serve twice in the second set and sealed the triumph on her second match point when her opponent floated a forehand wide.
Myskina is the fourth Russian into the last 16 of the women's draw, with compatriots Maria Kirilenko and Elena Dementieva still to play their third round matches. Enditem
