ZUOYUN, Shanxi Province, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The two
top heads of Zuoyun County, where a coal mine flooding has left 56 miners
trapped and feared dead after more than two weeks, have resigned, the local
legislature said Saturday.
The Standing Committee of the Zuoyun County People's Congress approved the resignations filed by
Zhang Mingsheng, former head of the county government, and his deputy Shi
Lu, who was in charge of local coal production, on Friday night.
Zhang has been removed from the post of deputy secretary of
the Zuoyun county committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and
Shi, has been deprived of the membership of the CPC county committee after
the failed attempt of the mine management to coverup the fatal accident by
reporting that only five miners were trapped.
Wang Jinxing, a key figure responsible for the
flooding tragedywho fled away, was captured on Saturday.
Police caught 35-year-old Wang in his home province
of Henan incentral China, wrapping up the manhunt for all the 11 key figures
suspected of being responsible for the accident.
Wang was labor contractor of a work team in the ill-fated
Xinjing Mine. Initial investigation fount that his workers drilled
through a sealed area underground, and triggered the flooding.
All the 22 miners of his team escaped from the shaft.
The flooding occurred on May 18, and little hope left
for the survival of the 56 miners that have since been trapped in the
water-filled pit. Enditem
