BERLIN, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel urged Iran on
Friday to seize the "unbelievable chance" to get outof its nuclear program
crisis with the package of incentives offered by the six major nations.
"I appeal on all forces of reason to see this chance and build on this chance," Merkel
said after meeting with the visiting Jordanian King Abdallah II.
Merkel said she and King Abdallah had agreed that Iran "must not be allowed
to come into the possession of nuclear weapons."
The five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany made an
offer to Iran in Vienna on Thursday, aimed at persuading Iran to meet the
international demands to halt its uranium enrichment.
The two-part package contains both incentives to encourage Iranto
cooperate, and the warning of punishment by the UN Security Council if Tehran
does not comply.
No details about the incentives have been unveiled.
"Both parts of the offer are an unbelievable chance for Iran, for the
entire region, and for world developments - we have a conflict which we can
resolve," Merkel said.
King Abdallah did not make much comment on Iran, but said " allparties must
work to find a diplomatic solution to the matter." Enditem
