China supports resolving Iran issue through talks

    BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- China supports all the efforts conducive to the resolution of the Iran nuclear issue through diplomatic negotiations, said Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing here on Friday.

    Li talked with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki on the phone, and the two exchanged views on the latest development of the nuclear issue.

    U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Wednesday that Washington would join the European countries in talks with Iran over its disputed nuclear issue if Tehran suspends uranium enrichment activities.

    Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said at a regular press conference on Thursday that China welcomes the U.S. offer. Enditem
