WASHINGTON, June 1
(Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush warned on Thursday that the United
States will seek United Nations Security Council sanctions against Iran if it
refuses to suspend uranium enrichment.
In response to Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr
Mottaki's comments that Iran would refuse to suspend uranium enrichment, Bush
said: "We'll see whether or not that is the firm decision of their government."
"And if that's what they decide to do, the next step,
of course, will be for our coalition partners to go to the United Nations
Security Council. And the choice is up to the Iranians," Bush said.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, at a press
conferenceon Wednesday, said that the United States would join the European
Union in talks with Iran on condition that Iran suspends uranium enrichment and
reprocessing activities.
The United States has demanded Iran to suspend its
uranium enrichment and reprocessing programs. However, Iran has refused to do so
and said its uranium enrichment programs are for peaceful purposes only. Enditem
