German woman sentenced to 15 years for deaths of nine babies

    BERLIN, June 1 (Xinhua) -- A German woman, who left nine of her 13 babies dead soon after birth, was convicted on Thursday of manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years in jail.

    The state court in Frankfurt-an-der-Oder, on the border with Poland, declined a prosecution request to find Sabine Hilschinz guilty of murder, but convicted her on eight counts of manslaughter, German news agency DPA reported.

    One death happened too long ago to prosecute, the report said.
