WASHINGTON, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The Bush administration plans tolet Pakistan buy advanced anti-ship missiles and related equipmentvalued at up to 370 million U.S. dollars, The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

Of the total HARPOON Block II missiles slated for the sale, 50 will be for launch from submarines, 50 from surface ships and 30 by air, the report quoted the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) as saying.

As required by the law, the agency has notified the U.S. Congress about the planned sale, which could be blocked by the Congress.

The DSCA said the sale will help U.S. interests by strengthening a friendly country and upgrading Pakistan's militarytechnology.

"The AGM-84, HARPOON Block II upgraded targeting capability significantly reduces the risk of hitting noncombatant targets," it said in a notice sent to the Congress.

"The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not affect the basic military balance in the region," the agency said.Enditem
