Forest fire quenched in northeast China

    HEIHE, Heilongjiang Province, May 31 (Xinhua) -- A forest fire raging for 10 days in Galashan area of Heihe City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province was extinguished, the local fire fighting headquarters said on Wednesday morning.

    The Galashan Forest Farm in Nenjiang County of Heihe City caught fire on May 21, due to lightning strikes. More than 4,300 armed policemen joined the fight.

    The fire was finally put out at 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday, the headquarters said.

    Earlier report said that 35 armed policemen got injured in the fire-fighting campaign and were sent to the nation's capital of Beijing for better medical treatment.

    The Galashan Forest Farm has been blockaded for fear of the fire's spreading to the Dahinggan Mountains, home to one of the country's major forests.

    Fire fighters remained alert to prevent the fire from resurging,the headquarters said. Enditem
