Newspaper office attacked in western Bangladesh

    DHAKA, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The supporters of a Bangladeshi lawmaker attacked a daily newspaper in western Kushtia district after an attack on a journalists protest rally on Monday, in which25 people were injured.

    The television channel ATN Bangla on Tuesday said the supporters of a lawmaker attacked the office of local daily and ransacked its office.

    On Monday, the same group of supporters attacked a rally of journalists protesting oppression on newsmen of local newspapers by the lawmaker of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in which 25 journalists, including editor of Dhaka-based Bangladesh Observer Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury were injured.

    The apex body, Bangladesh Federal Union of journalists President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul on Tuesday in his reaction on the second attack said, "We will announce a bigger program in Kushtia if necessary."

    On Monday after the attack on the journalists' rally in Kushtia,journalists in Bangladesh capital took to the streets to protest against the attack.

    Journalists of two Dhaka-based newspapers in Kushtia are on therun because of repression of the lawmaker. The two newsmen of Kushtia have gone into hiding as the men of the lawmakers have threatened them of their lives.

    The journalists attacked in Kushita blamed the lawmaker shahidul Islam for the attack on the rally. Enditem
