HANGZHOU, East China, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Svetlana Tsarukaeva of Russia claimed the title of women's weightlifting 58kg division as she beat Chinese world record holder Gu Wei by 26kg at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships here on Tuesday.

Tsarukaeva, 19-year-old, lifted 106kg in the snatch and 125kg in the jerk for a total result of 231kg to clinch the gold medal.

The 20-year-old Gu, who lifted a world-record 241kg in the Senior World Championships last year in Doha, could not sustain the same momentum as she only lifted 205kg, 36kg short of her result in Doha, to win the bronze medal.

Mercedes Perez of Colombia snatched the silver at 208kg.

"I had a holiday after the National Championships last month and did not train at all. I restarted training just one week ago, so I am satisfied with this result," Gu told Xinhua after the competition.

"I don't think Tsarukaeva is a threat to me. I have the confidence to beat her next time we meet," added Gu. Enditem
