Policeman dies in blast in India-controlled Kashmir

NEW DELHI, May 30 (Xinhua) -- One policeman was killed and three other people were seriously wounded when separatist guerrillas hurled a grenade at a police vehicle in the heart of Srinagar, capital of India-controlled Kashmir, Tuesday afternoon.

    Police said the incident took place in the Saraibala area and the militants' target was a police vehicle.

    "A policeman died instantly," Indo-Asian News Service quoted a senior police officer as saying.

    Another policeman and two civilian bystanders were seriously wounded in the explosion that sparked tension and panic in the uptown Srinagar.

    Police and paramilitary troops immediately surrounded the area and mounted searches. The blast disrupted traffic. Enditem
