ROME, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Defender Gianluca Zambrotta will likely miss Italy's World Cup opener against Ghana due to a left thigh injury.

Team physician Enrico Castellacci said Tuesday Zambrotta would be out for 15-20 days, suggesting he could also miss Italy's second game against the United States.

The Azzurri play Ghana on June 12, the United States five days later, and close group play against the Czech Republic on June 22.

Zambrotta sustained the injury in a training game against a local amateur side on Sunday.

Lazio's Massimo Oddo and Palermo's Cristian Zaccardo are possible substitutes. Enditem
