LAGOS, May 30 (Xinhua) -- At least 30 people have been feared killed in a multi-vehicle traffic accident on Ife-Ibadan expressway, southwest Nigeria, a road safety official said on Tuesday.

Halilu Baba, head of the Osun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), told Xinhua by telephone that a trailer driver who lost control of the vehicle rammed into three mini-buses at Akinlalu junction on Monday.

"The trailer lost control and climbed three buses that were picking passengers at Akinlalu junction," he said, adding that 30 persons died on the spot in the crash.

He said many victims were crushed beyond recognition and many others sustained severe injuries and had been sent to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Describing the accident as the "most unfortunate," the FRSC official said the reason why the driver lost control of the vehicle remained unknown. Maybe the driver was too tired and was sleeping, he added. Enditem
