ROK offers aid to Indonesian earthquake victims
www.chinaview.cn 2006-05-30 15:58:59

SEOUL, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The Republic of Korea (ROK) government announced on Tuesday that it would provide 2 million U.S. dollars to Indonesia to help the earthquake victims.

The government will dispatch a military transport plane to send the emergency aid, including cash, medical supplies, relief food and tents, as soon as possible, said the office of the prime minister.

The Korean National Red Cross and non-governmental relief organizations have promised to send 300,000 U.S. dollars to Indonesia in aid earlier.

A powerful earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck the Indonesian ancient province of Yogyakarta and parts of CentralJava province Saturday morning, leaving at least 5,000 deaths in the affected area. Enditem
