TIRANA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- UEFA has threatens sanctions against the Albanian national football team over the alleged government interference into the independence of the country's soccer federation, local media reported on Monday.

"The ministry of sports violates the autonomy of the Albanian football association," said the UEFA letter, urging the ministry to solve the conflict with the FAA as soon as possible.

Otherwise, the UEFA's executive committee is going to take statutory measures which may lead to the suspension of the association, the letter read.

The Albanian football association hopes that the conflict with the ministry of sports will not degenerate so that the Albanian team will not face sanctions.

"We hope that we don not have to face drastic measures from UEFA," an FAA spokesman said at a press conference. The Albania football association has in the past clashed with the government over the audit of its public funding. A court has recently ruled that the elections held in February were illegal.
