Yogyakarta's quake damages 259 school buildings

    JAKARTA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The earthquake which hit Indonesia's Yogyakarta province and environs on Saturday destroyed at least 259 elementary and secondary school buildings, Secretary of the Disaster Task Force Command Post (Posko Satgas) of the Ministry ofEducation, Bambang Wasito Adi said here on Monday.

    "At least 259 school buildings were damaged by the earthquake which hit Yoyakarta and parts of Central Java," Bambang told reporters.

    Out of the total, 93 school buildings were leveled to the ground , 116 were heavily and 50 others slightly damaged, Antara news agency quoted Banmbang as saying.

    An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted Yogyakarta and parts of Central Java and East Java provinces Saturday morning, killing at least 5,000 people. Enditem
